American Football

American football, known in the United States as football, is a sport played between two teams of eleven. The objective of the game is to score points by advancing the ball into the opposing team's end zone. The ball can be advanced by running with it or throwing it to a teammate. Points can be scored by carrying the ball over the opponent's goal line, catching a pass thrown over that goal line, kicking the ball through the opponent's goal posts or tackling an opposing ball carrier in his own end zone.
In the United States, high school football, college football and professional football are played under slightly different rules. High school football is governed by theNational Federation of State High School Associations, college football by the National Collegiate Athletic Association and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, while the major professional league is the NFL.
The sport is also played in Europe, Japan and Mexico. The International Federation of American Football acts as an international governing body for the sport. American football is closely related to Canadian football but with some differences in rules and the field.

Carles Puyol

How is the team feeling right now?
Losing against Switzerland definitely hurt us. We had been on a long winning streak and all of a sudden came an unexpected loss. That loss made us much stronger. We were anxious because we knew that if we failed again we’d be out of the competition. We were worried that we’d be the biggest failure of the World Cup. But the team knew how to overcome that problem and from here on out you’ll see the best Spain.
Cruyff and Luis Aragones criticize the team for playing with a double defensive pivot…
In football, when you don’t win everybody debates and when you win nobody complains… The coach is looking for more security. The offensive talent is the same but we are following in the steps of other great national teams that look to be a little more defensively sound while not forgetting about our other qualities. Our football is based on talent and the system we play gives us security.
Do you understand why some people blamed Busquets after the game against Switzerland?
‘Busi’ gives us equilibrium and he’s one of the best players in the world in his position. I won’t say that this World Cup made him mature more because he was already mature. He’s always well positioned, it’s amazing. But as you already know, when you win everything is great.
Do you think Xavi is playing out of position?
No, he’s played further up on the pitch many times before. It’s true that now he doesn’t touch the ball as much but he’s especially dangerous being so close to goal. He can give that final, lethal pass or score himself. Xavi is doing just fine.
Did Iniesta liberate himself with that goal?
He’s had a tough season. He’s suffered, like anyone who gets injured, but Andres is one of the best players in the world and he’s now feeling better.
Villa has already scored three goals…
Villa helps the national team in the same way that he’ll help Barca: goals and compromise. He plays with confidence and desire, he’s competitive and he has that special instinct for scoring goals. He’s also smart and makes things look easy on the pitch.
Portugal or Cristiano Ronaldo?
The rival is Portugal, a very compact team that has one of the best players in the world. But we’ll definitely stick to our style of play.
What do you think of Messi’s performances?
Incredible! They’ve hurt Messi a lot. He’s a player that’s always committed to his team and they constantly doubted him. I don’t understand how someone could doubt Leo, it’s amazing. He’s leading a great Argentina and I’m happy for him.

Cristiano Ronaldo 2011

2010–11 season

With the departure of Raúl during the summer of 2010, Ronaldo handed the #7 jersey.[74] On 23 October 2010, Ronaldo scored four goals against Racing de Santander,[75] the most goals he has ever scored in a single match.[76] This completed a goalscoring run of six consecutive matches (three in La Liga, one in the Champions League, and two for Portugal) in which Ronaldo scored in each match, totalling 11 goals, which is the most Ronaldo has scored in a single month. Before Real Madrid's 5-0 defeat by Barcelona at the Camp Nou, Ronaldo scored his second La Liga hat-trick of the season in a 5-1 win over Athletic Bilbao.[77] His final match of the calendar year saw him score a hat-trick in a 8-0 trashing of Levante in the Copa del Rey.[78]
Ronaldo began the 2011 with a very promising outlook, esspecially after Real Madrid acknowledged him to have broken numerous goalscoring records, previously settled and held by classic players such as Alfredo Di StéfanoHugo Sánchez or Manuel Alday.[79][80] His year took-off by scoring two vital goals on a tight 3-2 victory over Getafe.[81] He then consolidated his massive performance by scoring a hat-trick and assisting Kaká to score his first league goal after his return from injury, in a 4-2 victory over Villareal on 9 January. One game away from the middle of the season, Ronaldo held very clear perspectives of breaking Telmo Zarra and Hugo Sánchez's record of 38 League goals in a single season, since he was the league's top scorer with 22 goals, above Lionel Messi.[82][83] Shortly after, Ronaldo experienced the biggest goal drought in his entire career, scoring only 2 goals in more than a month. During this period, Real Madrid acknowledged to have hit the crossbar more than 12 times in the season, most of the shots belonging to Ronaldo and almost all having happened on crucial moments during though draws.[84] Ronaldo then made a massive comeback by scoring a hat-trick on a 7-0 trashing of Málaga on March 3, 2011, but became affected by a muscle injury at the end of the match, which forced him to be 10 days on the sidelines.
